Serbia and Croatia sign air deal

Wednesday, December 24, 2014

Serbia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlović, and the Croatian Minister for Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, Siniša Hajdaš Dončić, have signed a Memorandum on the Transfer of Powers in the Sector of Air Traffic Services between Serbia and Croatia. The deal will see the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency (SMATSA) hand over control of airspace near Osijek Airport to its Croatian counterpart. Due to its close proximity to the Serbian border, a portion of the approach to Osijek Airport has been controlled by SMATSA, creating a range of bureaucratic issues for airlines flying into the Croatian city. Signing the Memorandum, Ms. Mihajlović said, “I want for freedoms of the air between Serbia and Croatia to be improved as it is in the interest of the citizens of both countries”. Mr. Hajdaš Dončić added, “I am delighted that cooperation between Croatia and Serbia has been improved with the launch of flights between Belgrade and Zagreb. I am glad this agreement has finally been signed and we can continue to cooperate. Croatia is open for cooperation”. The two ministers are set to meet again early next year to discuss joint projects.

What the EU flag has to do on the Serbian side (or either, for this matter) and that within the Serbian government building?

Croatia is a member of the EU. Serbia is a candidate member of EU and a member of the Council of Europe which uses the same flag and according to its charter, its flag can be flown anywhere next to a member state flag. Pity you focused on flags rather than on the news.
