Oil company eyes Aviogenex

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

EX-YU Aviation News has learnt that a Dubai-based oil company has submitted a letter of interest for the purchase of charter airline Aviogenex. It comes after the Serbian government put up 502 state-owned companies for sale in August, among which is the airline. The Privatisation Agency will now evaluate the 1.732 offers it received for 403 different companies. The Agency has until the end of October to decide which offers will be approved and which companies will be shortlisted for bankruptcy. Aviogenex employees fear that despite interest from the United Arab Emirates, the Agency will propose for the charter airline to declare bankruptcy. Prior to the break-up of Yugoslavia, Aviogenex was the busiest charter airline in the country, handling over half a million passengers per year in the late 1980s. However, the carrier has fallen on hard times with a single and aging Boeing 737-200 jet grounded at Belgrade Airport and a handful of employees.

  2. Could someone with a bit of knowledge explain to me what is it exactly that Aviogenex has for sale?
Where is the value, apart form their B732?
Do they have any other assets?
Or is it just the fact it is a company registered in Europe?

    Thank you

  3. Right, so it is just that.
Hmmmm, lots of those Genex employees are going to get dissapointed when they find out how much the company is going to go for.

Such a shame...but I guess no different that loads of Serbian companies... oh, well.

    Thanks anyway.

They could turn Aviogenex into a very successful charter airline by leasing for them some A320/321 or 737-800 and appoint a management team of foreigners with experience in charter.
Like the Saudi investors did with Nesma Airlines from Egypt.
    Or Onur Air from Turkey.
