UAE-owned SR Technics to open Belgrade base

Monday, March 2, 2015

Aircraft maintenance company SR Technics from Switzerland, owned by the Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Development Company, has announced plans to downsize its operations in Zurich and open a base in Belgrade. SR Technics is one of the leading aircraft maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) providers in Europe with some 500 airline customers. In a press release, SR Technics said, “A range of factors - including the impact of currency fluctuations and the high cost of providing certain services from our Swiss base - are requiring us to adapt in order to meet the evolving needs of our customers. As a result of current economic factors and the changing dynamics of the MRO market, SR Technics will commence a consultation process in relation to up to 250 current and open administrative positions in Zurich over the next twelve months. At the same time SR Technics will establish a business process centre located in Belgrade, Serbia”. The move is seen as a possible introduction to Mubadala’s takeover of Serbia’s state-run maintenance company Jat Tehnika. Mubadala, which is owned by the government of Abu Dhabi, expressed interest in purchasing Jat Tehnika in November 2013. Mubadala and a group of investors from the UAE bought SR Technics in 2006 for 1.3 billion dollars.
