Etihad equipment back in Belgrade

Thursday, January 29, 2015

Etihad Airways’ aircraft will once again operate on its flights between Abu Dhabi and Belgrade. The route has been operated on behalf of the Emirati carrier by Air Serbia’s A319 jets and crew since early November last year. Starting June 1, Etihad aircraft and crew will take over the route. Since November, passengers booking their tickets with Etihad between the two capital cities have been informed that the flights would be operated by the Serbian carrier. Furthermore, each flight features Air Serbia’s crew with one crew member from Etihad. Announcements on board are made in English, Arabic and Serbian and feature Etihad Airways’ catering. In addition, due to the differences in the on board product, all passengers are issued with tablet computers featuring Etihad’s in-flight entertainment system. The national carrier of the United Arab Emirates will operate the route with its Airbus A319 on a daily basis, complementing Air Serbia’s daily service between the two cities.

I was on an EY flight from BEG-AUH operated by JU. They give out the tablets but they have to write down which seat they have given each tablet to, I assume so someone doesn't steel them, so its a bit of a long process. What's annoying is that they take the tablet from you around 1.30 before landing.

Such a shame that it's still an A319. I was hoping that it would be at least an A320. :(

What's good is that JU will have an extra A319 to use! Until now it was catastrophic because the aircraft would miss the regional and evening European flights. Huge inconvenience.

Market demand is the only criteria in decision over which aircraft should be used. Note that EY faces competition from FZ and QA.

Last summer they sent mix of A319/A320s. Flights were packed.

Etihad flights during summer were not full but always overbooked. On some days there would be 20+ who could not board. Airbus 321 would be ideal for the route in summer, while 319 for winter is more than enough

With EY reurning with their A319 it will mean a drop in capacity as their A319's have less seats. I was hoping at least the A320 as that flight is always full.

QR is not doing well in BEG, and FZ hasnt increased flights to BEG in years, when at times the aircraft goes less than 50% especially at this time of the year.

EK is expected to launch BEG with the A330 possibly towards the end of the year, which I see FZ leaving BEG. EY will need to step up their game and send a better product to keep their ground. Would be embarrassing loosing out on their turf.

I see EK coming to BEG only if FZ and QR leave the market which I doubt will happen. Dont forget that EK`s smallest aircraft is A330 with 273 seats. BEG at the moment doesnt have the power to full even 30% of the aircraft. We can speak about EK in BEG only if anounced UAE`s investments capitalize what is quite unreal

Sorry to spoil the party but EK will not be coming to BEG anytime soon.

FZ, QR and EY are here to stay for the time being. QR is the worst performer due to their one-stop ESB (soon SOF) service which puts many people off their otherwise great service. FZ has hit and miss periods from BEG but still it is the best performing route in ex-YU. Chances are that SKP will be dropped. I don't see SJJ doing well either or lasting for more than a season unfortunately; ZAG we shall see - it has more potential than the other two.

So this rather turbulent market will be interesting to watch over the coming year.

EY wise, expect the same, A319 most of the time to BEG from June 1st, with A320 filling in during peak season, No A330 unfortunately.

So nothing big, nothing drastic... no major changes in the coming year at least. And no A330 for JU this year, next year - maybe - with a big ''M''. Sorry INN-NS

EK has recently opened chauffeur drive in BEG, which it doesnt have in some of its destinations that it currently flies to. I think its a way to test their premium market in BEG. Demand is there with the current FZ flights, plus EY and JU have alot of connecting pax, especially alot of Asian pax with EY. A few months back half the flight was filled with Koreans.

Im disappointed to see the A319 remaining for BEG with EY as that flight needs a bigger ac. Their BEG flight is in their top 5 regarding CLF.

Regarding cargo, alot of cooperation is happening between Serbia and the UAE especially with the Nikolic government being close with the Emirati Al Nahayan family. Expect more trade between the 2.

    10. In my opinion, there is no point in speculating about EK's arrival in BEG until Bucharest gets EK service. They are next in line for EK in South East Europe.

Why do you think there is a big Maybe for ASL A330 next year?

Thanks God. I am using mostly Etihad when going home for the vacation from MCT. Also for my family. Now I had to choose Qatar fro my parents from BEG to MCT, for 2 reasons. More important reason is the quality of service. Air Serbia A319 is just not a proper plane to fly 6h. The legroom is so tight, that only people bellow 1.80m can sit normally. Also the seats are extremely unconfortable, compared to EY. Second reason that I chosen QR is the price difference. Anyhow, I am going for my vacation in August, and that time I will choose EY, but exclusively EY flight, not Air Serbia, no matter what's the price difference.

Wow, you are actually impressed with EY A319 product??? And moreover talking about it as if its top notch thing? Dude, fly Emirates, Singapore and then talk...till then Air Serbia is good enough for you.

Have you actually flown on JU's A319? They are just ok for intra-European flights, they are horrible on longer ones.
Etihad has a better onboard product and that's why it's good tht they are coming back.
