B&H fighting to survive

Thursday, February 19, 2015

The CEO of B&H Airlines says the carrier is fighting to survive but is still operating flights from Sarajevo to Zurich via Banja Luka. Previously, B&H Airlines said it would be forced to cancel all services from Wednesday, February 18, due to unpaid debt it owes to the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol), which regulates air traffic across the continent. However, the airline was able to operate its flights to Zurich yesterday. Still, Mr. Jažić says the airline is on the verge of bankruptcy. “Creditors will either begin bankruptcy procedures soon or the Federation government, as B&H’s owner, will lay off workers. There is no doubt that the situation is very bad”, Mr. Jažić says. The airline suspended all flights to Belgrade this week and is unlikely to resume the service anytime soon. The outgoing Federation government has failed to supply a promised bailout package for the airline since it has to adopt a new budget. “We are fighting but I no longer know what we can do. We have tried everything but they haven’t even adopted the budget yet”, Mr. Jažić concludes. B&H has accumulated debts towards banks for the financial lease of its two ATR 72 aircraft, Sarajevo Airport, Zurich Airport and several other local and international suppliers. Its employees have not been paid in several months.

The number of their passengers to Zurich at BNX is as usual; and the passengers are hoping the BH Airlines won't be wound up. The same is with BNX.
