Big interest for Ryanair in Montenegro
Ryanair, which only last week announced the launch of its first route to Montenegro, is reported to be recording strong ticket sales. According to the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, over the weekend only two seats were left for the inaugural Charleroi - Podgorica - Charleroi flight although tickets can still be booked on the airline’s website. The ministry indicates there has been a strong response from the public, with the service to Belgium allowing passengers to connect onto flights to Scandinavia and brining Montenegro closer to the administrative capital of the European Union. The no frills airline will launch two weekly flights to Podgirva from June 20 with further flight details available here.
Ryanair will operate flights to Montenegro until at least 2016 according to an agreement signed between the low cost airline and the government. Over the next three years the airline has offered to operate up to fourteen destinations from Tivat with Milan, Barcelona, London, Oslo and Stockholm selected by the government so far. According to the ministry, Ryanair has not received any subsidies or incentives and will be paying landing and handling fees in full.
Ryanair’s Head of Communications, Robin Kiely, says, “Ryanair is delighted to launch its first flights to and from Montenegro at Podgorica, with one new route to and from Brussels Charleroi, commencing on June 20, as Ryanair expands its route network to 29 countries across Europe and North Africa. Montenegrin visitors and consumers can now beat the recession and travel on Ryanair’s ultra low fares with no fuel surcharge guaranteed and Ryanair’s new Podgorica route will deliver over 10.000 passengers per annum with further growth planned, including new routes to and from Tivat in summer 2014”.

You cannot connect as a transfer passenger on Ryanair, meaning you have to collect your luggages and go through all the procedurees again. Also if you miss your other flight due to your first one arriving late you have to pay for a new ticket!

Deleteone example (I did myself in January last year) : 2 bookings: 1 Germanwings CGN-ZAG and 1 Croatian Airlines ZAG-DBV (and the same on the way back : just be careful to have a stay in ZAG that is long enough to cover some delay in the first flight (because the second doesn't wait for you)

1% more PAX (2% more in scheduled and 8% less in charter)
10,5% more pax per flight (49,7) than last year (no LF data sorry)
Note that less flights and hours is due to one aircraft less than last year + another CRJ2 is now grounded for last two weeks, could be the one that is reported to be sold.
Flights to Paris are quite full for the first month of operation and I think this has helped to rise the PAX numbers as previous months they were declining.

B&H Airlines, Turkish Aurline and Pegasus expect 300.000-350.000 passengers in 2013, carried on more then 30 weekly flights from Sarajevo (4-6 daily daily flights with 1 ATR72 (B&H Airlines) and 3-5 daily flights with B 737-800 and (on demand) B 737-900 / A 321.
That is not even near to true. SJJ-IST has 31 flights out of which 7 are ATR72

is even the best performing route in the former Yugo when you skip BHair completely!
While BEG-IST on its best days has maximum 2x737-800 by Turkish and 1x737-800 by Pegasus and 1x 737-300 by Jat ,which is unfortunately very rare you have not seldom
2x737-800 + 1xA320 by Tk and 2x737-800 by PC on SJJ-IST !
That people have no correct understanding of whats going on outside of Belgrade airport i blame their bad done and misleading airport web-sites.
Only BEG has a good,even very good webpage
while the others(except LJU)do not even show aircraft utilisation!
BEG webpage also shows codeshare as codeshares and not as separate flights which is misleading on purpose.

At the Moment I just have the figures for april: 28.560 passengers.

I am not saying it's not the busiest Ex-Yu route, but let's look at the precise figures and discuss. We can surely get to the bottom of this. Do you at least know if Apr 2013 is higher or lower than Mar 2013?
It is surely one of the busiest routes, although the fact that it's to two different airports is almost like cheating a little.

Well, BEG - VIE route is the most frequent one in former Jugoslavia, but it is not one with most passengers!
Temporary, the busiest route according to passenger statistics is Sarajevo - Istanbul IST and SAW (considering both airports).

On the route flies also Pegasus with 737-800 6 times per week.
Overall there are 5 daily flights on Sarajevo - Istanbul route.
During the summer, Germanwings has 3 weekly flights from Cologne to Sarajevo and 1 weekly from Stuttgart to Sarajevo.
During the summer 2013, there are also direct flights to:
- Zagreb
- Belgrade
- Vienna
- Zurich
- Ljubljana
- Munich
- Kuwait
- Beirut
- Copenhagen
- Stockholm
- Oslo
SIA expects some 660.000 to 700.000 passengers in 2013.
In the Q1 2013, SIA welcomed +12,65% passengers more then in Q1 2012.
The results for April 2013, will be presented next week.
It is also to be mentioned, that Sarajevo International Airports serves a region of some 700.000 inhabitants.
People from Tuzla region use BEG, from Banja Luka ZAG and from Herzegowina airports in Split and Dubrovnik.
Zagreb, Belgrade, Skopje and Pristina serve much bigger regions:
Zagreb: 1.600.000 (Zagreb and North West Croatia)
Belgrade: 3.000.000 - 4.000.000 (whole Central Serbia)
Pristina: 1.500.000 (whole Central and west Kosovo)
Skopje: 1.500.000 (whole Central and west Macedonia).
Serving an area of some 700.000 inhabitants and having some 600.000 passengers a year is really great result for main Bosnian airport!

DeleteI think I know of at least one route out of a city in the Ex-Yu territory with more annual passengers (plus it's to a single airport, not two), however unless you provide precise passenger figures for SJJ-IST (plus SAW) then I am unable to cross-check that information.
You yourself said that it's irrelevant the number of flights and seats. What we need from you, if you have this information is either:
(1) Precise passenger figure for 2012; or
(2) Precise passenger figure for 2013 Q1 (Jan, Feb and Mar of 2013).
