Anger over audit report
Montenegro Airlines has denied claims of covering up 2.5 millions of euros worth of debt and will launch court proceedings against members of the Montenegro State Audit Institution. “Representatives of the State Audit Institution have through false interpretation, the malicious obscuring of facts and key documents misled the Montenegrin public”, a statement from the national carrier reads. In its report the Audit Institution found that Montenegro Airlines withheld parts of its losses from its financial report. However, the company insists, “Montenegro Airlines is one of the most controlled companies in the country’s history. There is no relevant state institution which has not checked the airline’s business practices. Even the police has been checking over every single paper in the company for the past five years. Offcourse, our business practices have always been and are in compliance with state laws and regulations“. Montenegro Airlines has contacted EX-YU aviation news requesting for the company’s response to the report to be published.
The Audit Institution, which spent six months compiling the report, accused Montenegro Airlines’ CEO, Zoran Djurišić, of singlehandedly ordering an Embraer jet. However, the national carrier again challenged the findings, saying that the government ticked off on the order. It says auditors who wrote the report were unable to understand how such a complex business is run. Montenegro Airlines admits that the global economic crisis has created problems at the company but says its restructuring program is under way and will be complete by 2015 when business should stabilise. The State Audit Institution has responded to accusations made by Montenegro Airlines saying the report is accurate and that the company should spend more time resolving its business errors.
Montenegro Airlines handled approximately 500.000 passengers in the first nine months of the year, an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2011. Earlier this month, the government ruled out the possibility of privatising its national carrier, saying conditions on the market are not right for such a move.
Their reaction is hilarious because they nowhere deny or give reason for the huge debt they have made. Such a small company so many problems. But that’s what usually happens when the airline is corrupt to the core. Let’s see what happens now when Don Milo is back ruling his sultanate.

ReplyDeleteQatar Airways launched flights to Belgrade yesterday. There were lots of foreign journalists on the flight from the Gulf, Asia, Australia. Unlike in ZAG where Al Baker even didn't bother to come (neither to organize a press-conference with some deputy director), Al Baker came to Belgrade in person and quite enjoyed his time.

DeleteQatar could not invite journalist to the Zagreb launch because unlike Belgrade the flights to Zagreb were sold out 7 days a week and soon to be twice daily. ha Belgrade 3 days a week and they couldn't even get bums on that so the had to give away seats for free.

DeleteQatar announced ZAG in November 2011, launched May 2012 = around 7 months time lapse. Belgrade was announced in August 2012, launched in November of the same year. Do you see the difference? Ok, i'll help you - 3 months vs. 7 months. Do you see now? I would have gladly expected your first Zagreb flight to be full but business was empty, so no worry, if he wanted to invite journalists and others - which he does for a reason - he would have invited them. ZAG has never been an important point for them, it is just a filler to BUD, where QR also has a monopoly to the Gulf. ZAG is simply a filler, be it for MUC, FRA, VIE or BUD - traditional Austro-Hungarian-Germanic enslavement of Croatia. Besides QR is Croatia's only link to the Gulf, while Belgrade always had minimum 2 in the history. Don't compare the incomparable.

DeleteI don't expect strong number on QR flights to Belgrade, at least for the start. Things might improve around New Year when people realize there's an alternative to TK and FZ. Until then planes might be half-empty. In any case i see bright future for them on long-term, since they'll definitely take a big share on the market. QR is the only link for ZAG and BUD to the Gulf so no wonder the route had to work somehow, even with occasional A321 (recently often reduced to A320 though).
DeletePS: QR is still far from launching another major East-European city (KBP) where tense competition exists same as in BEG, or even much worse actually, if to think well. All major (4-5) Ukrainian cities are extremely well connected to the Middle-East and Gulf area with Air Arabia, FlyDubai, Turkish Airlines, Aerosvit, UM Airlines and Pegasus Airlines all operating flights to the region to almost all the countries, from Lebanon to Iraq and Iran. Long-hauls to Asia are mostly covered by domestic/local companies Aerosvit and Aeroflot on the other hand.
