Soon in Skopje
In just under two weeks, Skopje will once again see a direct air service from Rome Fiumicino Airport. The low cost Italian airline Blu-express will operate the service twice per week from Sunday, October 30. Currently, a return ticket in November will set passengers back 80 Euros, all taxes included. Blu-express is the low cost and short haul subsidiary of Blue Panorama Airlines which operates flights from Italy to holiday destinations such as Havana, Cancun and Montego Bay. The new service from Rome to Skopje will operate with a Boeing 737-300. Flight details can be found here.

Since MAT Airways grounded its single aircraft more than a month ago due to poor ticket sales, Skopje Airport hasn’t had scheduled flights to the Italian capital. The Macedonian Civil Aviation Agency has in the past two months been in pursuit of airlines interested to commence flights from Zurich, Rome, Dusseldorf and Amsterdam to the Macedonian capital in order to fill in the void left by MAT. The airline is unlikely to see its operating license extended for the 2012 summer season.

Meanwhile, Macedonian plane spotters had a sight for sore eyes on Monday when a VIP Qatar Airways Airbus A340-500 jetted into Skopje carrying the Emir of Qatar along with another Airbus A320 for the Emir’s entourage. Both countries signed a bilateral agreement for the development of tourism. Last year, Qatar and Macedonia signed an Open Sky Agreement granting airlines from both countries the ability to operate an unlimited number of passenger and cargo flights using any type of aircraft. The two countries also agreed to adopt an open skies policy in order to include third, fourth and fifth freedom passenger rights on intermediate routes and beyond.

Good news, If they cannot establish their own airline in Macedonia they might as well encourage other carriers to fly to Skopje.

Hopefully FlyDubai can start DXB-SKP :)

Everybody complains about Star Alliance and how they dominate airports in Croatia,Slovenia and maybe BEG..but,
the sad alternative are all these shitty airlines you can find there in Skopje and pristina !
Blu Express (never heard of them),
    Mat,Jat,Palair ,Hamburg- International(what a disgusting name),then those Illyria,Dardania,
Kosovenia,Albanesia,wind-and fart-air ! All those shitty airlines come and go...stupid fantasy names
nobody ever heard of...oh i forgot Kon Tiki Sky !
I still wait for Kon Chiki Kokobanana Milky way International
flying from Skopje to Pristina !

I didnt want to upset so much people here on the blog..so my excuse !
But fact is that most of airlines
flying to this part of ex yu are
not worth to called an airline !
This Blu Express I think is even charter...when I read about it on Wiki !
Good airlines I consider Lufthansa,Swiss, British Airways and the like of Wizzair and
Easyjet !But Kon Tiki air....please come on !
And Jat..Jugoslovenski Aero transport...named after a country that does not exist anymore !
    That makes impression of totally
    Un-seriousity !
Imagine B&h renaming itself Neo-Ottoman imperial airways Elhamdulillah !

Belle Air Europe starts from mid December Skopje-Vienna.A return ticket will set you back about 160Euros which is quite ok considering the high season.
And btw. I hope there will be soon low costs from Macedonia to Switzerland, Germany and Belgium-these are markets with the biggest potential which are not covered yet!!
2 weekly flights to Doha will be also perfect.

I dont think flydubai will ever fly to Skopje.
I am also very sceptic about flights to Belgrade.Has anybody heard about
    how are bookings for them?
If bookings are bad(what I expect)
then we will see delay and eventually
    abolition of this service!
And if Belgrade can not get the flights the rest also wont get them!

Purger: Today W11 Timetable of OU got announced to the customers. I saw that OU has plenty of code share agreements with OU flights nbrs to the UK, Scandinavia, Prague, Geneva and even with SK to IAD and EWR.
There is OU flight nbrs even to Airports such as Aberdeen or Edinburgh. Good thing
Do you know what kind of code share agreement it is. Do they buy seats on certain flights, for example on OU 5630 CPH-EWR?

    Thanks

BEGLAX: nothing new. With SK to USA code-share is one year old now. UK with bmi also some one year. Air France to some 10 franch destination from spring (you don't have it in time table). Also with Spanair to Spain. Thera are also other code-share lines that you can not see in time table but you can buy ticket.

    CTN has code-share with:

    Austrian
    Brussels
    TAP
    Turkish
    SAS
    Spanair
    Swiss
    bmi

    you have code-share:

    bmi via LHR to:
    ABZ
    BHD
    DUB
    EDI
    MAN

    Lufthansa via MUC and FRA:
    TLX

Thanks Purger, you are like a lexicon :-)

I went on www.croatiaairlines.hr to check for rates ZAG to the US, but it gives me no indication for country US or destinations EWR and IAD...

actually wanted to compare rates ex ZAG to the US with JP to the US. As JP has no code shares to the US, but rates via MUC,JFK on LH are similar as what AF quotes LJU-CDG-JFK (around 750 eur return in 2nd half of Nov)

Thanks for compliment that I am lexicon :-) Well I am expert analyst for HSPP of Croatia airlines. For that I have to know several thing, don't I?

Now about your request. For 2nd half of November ZAG - EWR/JFK (if you want some other destination tell me so):

Lufthansa via FRA or MUC 547 EUR
Croatia/KLM or Delta via AMS 551 EUR
Air France via CDG 562 EUR
    Malev via BUD 626 EUR
    Austrian via VIE 644 EUR
    Swiss via ZRH 691 EUR
    SAS via CPH 782 EUR
    Turkish via IST 793 EUR

I don't know price with Croatia Airlines on code-share with SAS to EWR. You have to contact call-center for that.

For people that do not have a clue yet they bless us with their opinion on here, flydubai has far more chances in succeeding than Jat ever did.
A lot of people in Australia did book via Emirates or simply via travel agencies which sold them tickets with EK and JU.
Now they will keep on booking them with EK but in stead of Jat from DXB via LCA it will be a direct flight.

Not to mention that with a direct flight from Dubai Turkish Airlines will lose a share of passengers on the BEG-DXB that it has stolen from Jat.
