Tuzla Airport passenger terminal
The management of Tuzla Airport in Bosnia and Herzegovina has announced that the national carrier, B&H Airlines, will commence charter flights to Turkey and Egypt from June 8. The flights should run through to September 21. The direct flights will operate from Tuzla to Antalya in Turkey and Hurghada in Egypt. The news was welcomed by the Tuzla Airport authorities who were very unhappy when B&H Airlines published its 2010 summer timetable with the absence of Tuzla. All flights will be operated by the Boeing B737-400, which will, from June, primarily be used on charter flights, as it will be replaced by the Airbus A319 on regular services.The director of Tuzla Airport, Enver Jukanović, revealed that the airport is negotiating with the low cost Wizz Air, which has expressed interest to commence flights from Dortmund. Apparently, the airport has also found an airline interested in commencing services to Dubai, although Jukanović did not wish to elaborate, the “Nezavisne novine” newspaper reports.
Jukanović admitted that the airport has financial problems and that the absence of needed equipment forced the airport’s closure during most of winter. Tuzla once had flights to Istanbul and Frankfurt although low interest led B&H Airlines to terminate the service.
Tuzla is located in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s North East and has approximately 180.000 citizens. It is the country’s third largest city after Sarajevo and Banja Luka.
wizz air is certainly doing more strives to help then ryanair.

Well, WizzAir should be doing more as Bosnia is in Eastern Europe and WizzAir is the LCC for Eastern Europe.
ReplyDeleteHopefully after visa abolishment in Bosnia, we may see a Wizz Air flight from Sarajevo to London Luton and Dortmund.

Wizz Air should be doing more.. but Bosnia is in Southern Europe geographicly. Eastern europe geographicly is Poland/Romania ect ect. I wish to see Ryanair and Easyjet And Wizz Air fly all over Bosnia and Croatia. God willing!

ReplyDeleteBNX has been negotiating with RyanAir, but can't get them to fly in without a minimum infrastructure they ask for, so the word that someone in BiH is "negotiating" with a LCC means nothing. Tuzla, BNX, SJJ, everybody can negotiate, we will have to wait and see if it becomes anything more than a series of email ping-pong...

And BTW, BiH is maybe S or SE Europe, but because of the visa problem, it's Eastern Europe, the one before the Berlin wall came down....

ReplyDeleteEastern Europe doesn't just apply to geographical location (Bosnia being in the SE) it also refers to IIRC whether or not the country had some strong political ties with Russia. Like Yugoslavia and the USSR.

Sorry, but visa liberation is only one aspect of whether this will work.
ReplyDeleteYou need to ensure there will be bums on seats to provide enough financial success to keep operating the service. And i'm not referring to any one of the 4 layers of bureaucracy which operate in BiH (or a combination)...
Sure, i'd love to see all 4 airports in Bosnia operating regular, profitable flights (even OMO), but there has to be some justification in how these costs will be covered!
